New TV rocks

Ok, my HDTV holdout was worth it. I waited and waited for the right display at the right deal. All I can say is wow. So nice to sit in my own home watching the big game on a nice setup. No going to the bar. No need to go to a friend’s place. Can’t wait for UNC hoops this year.

Speaking of the big game, the Saints are pouring it on the Cowboys. I’m loving it. Brees is playing perfectly. He’s really living up to the MVP hype he deserves. Speaking of hype, our coach (Sean Payton) needs more hype. He’s really turned this entire organization around. Sure he’s had some help, but he’s the catalyst. He’s called tonight’s game perfectly. Give that man a raise.

On a not so great note, the HDTV tuner/DVD player that I bought off of eBay is defective. The tuner works great (I’m watching the game off of Comcast using its QAM tuner), but the DVD player starts skipping a lot after about 10 minutes of playback. Luckily, I can send it back for a refund. I signed up for Comcast’s HD service with the DVR. No commitment there so I’ll play with the DVR for a few months and see if it really is as bad as everyone says it is. Supposedly they’re going to load the Tivo software on it in a few months. Dunno, we’ll see.

Of course, I now have $250 burning a hole in my pocket. So what did I do? I bought a new DVD player of course!
Ordered the Oppo DV-981HD player a few minutes ago. On paper it sounds great. It’s basically the 1080p version of their original player which won all kinds of awards. It uses a Faroudja processor for the upconversion so it should be pretty money. Oh yeah, they’re also based out of Mountain View and will let me pick it up in person. No need to have it shipped 38 miles. Chan and Gary, want to get Popeyes this week?
