Cut the Comcast cord

Got my Vista-based home theater PC all setup and completely rocking. Dual tuners recording stuff over the air in HD, a web interface to schedule recordings over the Internet, a web interface to watch shows remotely like Slingbox, a great interface for listening to my extensive music collection, a good platform for watching shows downloaded from Amazon Unbox, automatic commercial skipping, and no monthly fee!

Yes, I canceled my Comcast service and am now enjoying my Over The Air (OTA), free programming. That’s $87/month that I’m no longer wasting on crap. I can get 4 season subscriptions to shows on HBO/Showtime/etc for the price of a single month of Comcast programming. That’s a real value — Comcast is just too expensive to justify.

I’m also excited about the new Microsoft Internet TV plug-in for Media Center, but I’m not getting my hopes up. It would be cool to see something like that take off, but I’m not holding my breath. Still, season 1 of Arrested Development is up there for free!

I must say, Vista Media Center really is all that and a bag of chips. It’s the only reason to upgrade to Vista.
