New TV series winners and losers

K-Ville – Cheesy, but I like it. Any TV series that takes place in New Orleans is going to be cheesy just like any series that takes place in Las Vegas will be cheesy. It’s a city with character and that goes a long way. Still, I like it because they’re not afraid to talk about New Orleans’ issues right now. Especially the more controversial and touchy issues (the 9th Ward was full of thugs, parts of the city shouldn’t be rebuilt, etc). Plus, props for name dropping the Columns. Damn I spent a lot of time in that place growing up. Columns Hotel peeps. Look it up.

Dirty Sexy Money – What’s not to like here? Seriously. So far it has a lot of potential. It’s like Dirt but with more characters and better writing.

Bionic Woman – Eh. Pilot was lame and seemed rushed. Production values looked low. This is supposed to take place in San Francisco but there were no SF shots in there and looked like it was shot in LA. Hello, bars in SF loaded with hot women? I don’t think so. Only a single SF-based show can survive. We’re not that well like around the nation and that show will be….

Journeyman – Kickass! Who didn’t like Sliders or Quantum Leap? Won’t be anywhere near as good as DW but isn’t even in the same genre. Plus, mad kudos for filming on location in SF and bringing the city into the show.

Big Bang Theory – Ummm, no.

Moonlight – I’m angry at Vicki for suggesting this. Though I can see the appeal to women. Quoth Lael, "I dunno Hesse, Vampires are kinda hot."

I know it’s not a new series, but I just started watching Dexter on a friend’s recommendation. I got season 1 off of Amazon Unbox and season 2 just started. It’s awesome! There’s something odd and intriguing about sympathizing and empathizing with a serial killer. No, it’s not just me. That’s the show’s hook. Everyone feels this way. Check it out, just not over dinner.

Chuck –  Alias meets Geek Squad.  More snarky writing from Josh Schwartz (OC), he even panned those lame Alias flashback, flashback, flashbacks in the opening sequence.
